Students

The Lindsay and Matt Moroun Religious Liberty Clinic is a teaching law practice that educates, forms, and prepares Notre Dame law students to become the rising generation of religious liberty leaders by training students in the practice of the law as they defend religious freedom for all people. Students work on a broad variety of legal matters to promote religious freedom on behalf of individuals and organizations of all beliefs.

    Timur Arifdjanov

    Class of 2026

    Timur is a third-year student from Portland, Oregon. He graduated from the University of Portland with a major in English in 2023. In law school he is a member of the Christian Legal Society and serves as an Assistant Rector in Knott Hall. He also partook in Notre Dame’s London Law Program last year. He worked at the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Portland this past summer.

    Annabella Biancheri is a third-year J.D. candidate at Notre Dame Law School, originally from Westborough, Massachusetts. She earned a Law and Society B.A. from The Pennsylvania State University in 2023, where she was named to the Dean’s List and was inducted into Phi Delta Phi Pre-Law Honor Society. At Notre Dame, Annabella is a member of the St. Thomas More Society and Jus Vitae Association. After her first year of law school, she interned with the Child Advocacy Center at the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, where she supported legal efforts on behalf of vulnerable children. Following her second year, she served as a Research Assistant to Notre Dame Law Professor Lloyd Mayer, researching international religious nonprofit law.

    Noah Borgeson is a third-year law student from Rochester, Minnesota. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of St. Thomas, MN, where he studied Political Science and was a five-year letter winner in football. At NDLS, Noah has served as a Legal Writing Teaching Assistant, studied abroad through the London Law Programme, and is currently a member of the Journal of Law, Ethics & Public Policy. He spent his 1L summer as a judicial intern for the Honorable Patrick J. Schiltz of the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota and his 2L summer as a summer associate at Jones Day’s Chicago office. After graduation, he will clerk for the Honorable Iain D. Johnston on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois before returning to Jones Day.

    John Burke is a second-year law student from St. Louis, Missouri. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2022, majoring in the Program of Liberal Studies and Economics. He spent two years in Washington, DC, before returning to Notre Dame for law school. John is a member of the Federalist Society and the St. Thomas More Society, and he serves as the sacristan for the law school chapel. During his 1L summer, he worked as a summer associate for Consovoy McCarthy, PPLC, in Washington, DC.

    Nick Darcy is a J.D. candidate from Morton, Illinois. He graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2023 with a B.S. in Political Science and Economics. Before law school, Nick worked as a courtroom clerk in the Tenth Judicial Circuit of Illinois. He spent his 1L summer as a judicial intern for the Honorable Michael M. Mihm of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois. Nick will spend his 2L summer as a summer associate in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis. After graduation, he hopes to pursue a federal judicial clerkship and a career in litigation.

    Tim Davis is a third-year law student from Watertown, Wisconsin. He graduated from Maranatha Baptist University in 2023 with a B.B.A. in Business Management and minors in Biblical Studies and TESOL. At Notre Dame, he is a Managing Senior Editor for the Notre Dame Law Review and was a teaching assistant for Civil Procedure. Tim also serves as a Staff Sergeant in the Wisconsin Air National Guard. Tim spent his 1L summer interning for Judge Damon R. Leichty on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana and his 2L summer working for Foley & Lardner LLP in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After graduation, he plans to work as a litigator in Wisconsin.

    Alexander is a second-year law student from Bethesda, Maryland. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 2022 with a degree in economics. Before law school, Alexander taught high school science for two years in Alexandria, Virginia as part of Teach For America. During his 1L summer, Alexander interned for the Honorable Eleni M. Roumel on the United States Court of Federal Claims. At Notre Dame, Alexander is a staff editor on the Notre Dame Law Review

    Brandon Enriquez is a third-year law student from Kearny, NJ. He graduated from Northwestern University in 2021 with degrees in Mechanical Engineering and in Manufacturing and Design Engineering. At Notre Dame, he has served on the boards of the Federalist Society and St. Thomas More Society and is an Assistant Rector in Siegfried Hall. Brandon is also the Managing Development Editor for Volume 101 of the Notre Dame Law Review. During his 1L summer, Brandon was a Dublin Honor Scholar at Philip Lee, LLP in Dublin, Ireland. Over his 2L summer, Brandon was a summer associate at the Houston office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. After graduating, Brandon will clerk for the Honorable Aileen M. Cannon on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and for the Honorable Elizabeth L. Branch on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

    Isabella is a third-year law student from Vancouver, WA. She graduated in 2021 from The George Washington University, where she double majored in History and Political Science, and was a member of the Politics & Values Honors Program. At Notre Dame, Isabella serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Notre Dame Journal of International and Comparative Law, and spent an academic year studying in London as a member of the London Law Programme. During her 1L summer, she worked as a legal extern at the U.S. Department of Justice Executive Office for Immigration Review in Portland, OR. This past summer, Isabella worked as a summer associate in the Kelley Drye & Warren New York office, where she looks forward to returning after graduation.

John spent his 1L summer working at Philip Lee in Dublin, Ireland and his 2L summer working at Latham & Watkins in New York. At Notre Dame, John serves as the Executive Managing Editor for the Journal of Law, Ethics, & Public Policy

    Maddie is a second-year law student from Libertyville, Illinois. She graduated from University of Notre Dame in 2024, where she studied math and constitutional studies. At NDLS, she serves as a staff editor for the Law Review and secretary for the St. Thomas More Society. She spent her 1L summer as an intern with the Notre Dame Investment Office. She will spend her 2L summer at Ropes & Gray in their Chicago office. After graduation, she will clerk for the Honorable John Blakey on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

    Cam Grinnell was born and raised on the North Shore of Massachusetts. In 2022, he graduated first in class from Gordon College with degrees in political science, biblical studies, and economics. Thereafter, Cam attended the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, receiving a master's degree in analytic and exegetical theology in 2023. At Notre Dame, Cam serves as a research assistant for Professor Nicole Stelle Garnett and as the Executive Online Editor of the Notre Dame Law Review. He spent the summer following his second year of law school with Jones Day in New York City. In the fall of 2025, he will participate in the Manhattan Institute's Law School Associate Program. After graduation, he will clerk for Chief Judge Terry A. Doughty of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana and Judge Cory T. Wilson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.

    Jack is a J.D. candidate from Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from St. John’s University in 2023 with a B.S. in Accounting. Jack spent his 1L summer in Washington, D.C. at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. He spent his 2L summer at the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis in their tax practice. After graduation, Jack will return to Kirkland & Ellis as an associate in their tax practice.

    Nora Ibrahim is a third-year J.D. candidate at Notre Dame Law School. She graduated from the University of Chicago where she majored in Biological Sciences with a specialization in Endocrinology, and minored in Visual Arts. After graduating, she worked at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in the Center for Genetic Medicine and the Department of Anesthesiology. She also volunteered as a Youth Team Lead and an Event Organizer at her local mosque. During her 1L summer, she was a Summer Associate at Barnes and Thornburg where she worked alongside the Corporate, Real Estate, and Healthcare practice groups. During her 2L summer, Nora worked as a Summer Associate at Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath where she focused on working extensively within transactional practice groups. She currently serves as a Notes Editor for the Journal on Emerging Technologies and President Emerita of the Middle Eastern Law Student Association. After graduating from Notre Dame Law School, Nora will work as an Associate at Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath.

    David is a second-year student from Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from The Ohio State University where he studied Public Affairs and Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. At Notre Dame, he is a Murphy Fellow, and serves on the Law Review and the Moot Court Board. He spent his 1L summer as a judicial intern for Judge Damon R. Leichty on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, and once his 2L year concludes, he will work as a summer associate at Jones Day in Cleveland.

    Catherine Kolesar is a second-year law student from Bethesda, Maryland. She graduated in 2024 from Villanova University with a B.A. in Political Science. At Notre Dame, Catherine serves as the secretary of the Federalist Society and as a staff editor on the Notre Dame Law Review. She is also a Murphy Fellow for Notre Dame Law School’s Program on Church, State & Society. During her 1L summer, Catherine worked in Washington, D.C. at the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. During her 2L summer, she will work at Kirkland & Ellis in Washington, D.C. After graduation, Catherine will clerk for the Honorable Andrew L. Brasher on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

    Jack McEnery is a 2L from St. Louis, Missouri. He received his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame in 2024, where he majored in the Program of Liberal Studies and Theology. During his 1L summer, Jack interned for Judge Benjamin Beaton on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. Jack will spend his 2L summer working at Sullivan & Cromwell in Washington, D.C. At Notre Dame, Jack serves as the communications director of the Federalist Society and is a Murphy Fellow for the Program on Church, State, and Society. After graduation, Jack will clerk for Judge Julius N. Richardson on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

    Jennifer Merkley is a second-year law student from St. Anthony, Indiana. She graduated in 2019 from Indiana University East with degrees in Psychology and Political Science. At Notre Dame, Jennifer is a Staff Editor on the Notre Dame Law Review and serves as Secretary of the Jus Vitae Society. She spent her 1L summer as a research assistant to Professor Robert Leider, supporting scholarship on constitutional and regulatory law.

    Tirzah Montanye is a third-year law student at Notre Dame Law School. She grew up in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate NY and in Lancaster, PA. She graduated from Wheaton College (IL), where she majored in political science and completed supplemental undergraduate and graduate coursework in biblical studies and theology. After graduating, she worked at the Center for Public Justice as a Family Policy Research Associate. She is completing a joint degree program with Notre Dame’s Department of Political Science, and she spent the majority of her 1L summer working towards fulfilling requirements for the PhD. During her 2L summer, Tirzah worked as a Judicial Intern at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana. She currently serves as Executive Editor for the Journal on Emerging Technologies, and she is on the executive board of the Married Law Students Association.

At Notre Dame, Haley is a member of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and the Journal of Legislation. She spent her 1L summer as a judicial intern for the Honorable Jeffrey L. Schmehl on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and her 2L summer as a summer associate at DLA Piper in the New York office. After graduation from law school, Haley will return to DLA Piper as an Associate.

    Cecilia Quirk is a second-year law student from Wayne, Pennsylvania. She graduated in 2024 from Princeton University with a degree in Operations Research and Financial Engineering and a minor in Humanistic Studies. At NDLS, Cecilia is a research assistant for Professor Paolo Carozza, a Staff Editor for the Notre Dame Law Review, and a Law and Economics Student Fellow. She spent her 1L summer in Delaware as a summer associate with Richards, Layton & Finger. Next summer, she will be in D.C. working as a summer associate at DLA Piper in their Patent Litigation group.

    Class of 2027

    Dovid Y. Rimmer is a J.D. candidate from New York City. Previously, he received his Rabbinic ordination from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel, holds an MA in Jewish Education from the London School of Jewish Studies/Middlesex University as well as a Talmudic undergraduate degree. He joins the clinic seeking to learn and participate in the work of ensuring religious liberty for his own children as well as all children. Dovid Rimmer spent his 1L summer as a judicial intern for Judge Amul R. Thapar of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and will be working as a summer associate at Jones Day next summer.

    Aleah is a second-year law student from rural Ohio. She graduated in 2023 from Liberty University with a Bachelors of Arts in History, after which she completed a Fulbright award in Malta as an English Teaching Assistant. During her 1L summer, she served as a research assistant for Professor Bruce Huber, and will be a summer associate at Jones Day in Columbus during her 2L summer. She is a member of the Christian Legal Society, the Federalist Society, and a staff editor on the Notre Dame Law Review. After graduating from law school, she will clerk for the Honorable Stephanos Bibas on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

    John Shaughnessy is a third-year J.D. candidate from Cimarron, Kansas. He graduated from Benedictine College in 2015 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to law school, John worked as an engineer and technology product manager at several large companies in the Kansas City area. During this time, he obtained a Master’s in Engineering Management from the University of Kansas. At Notre Dame, he is a member of the St. Thomas More Society, a community editor for the Journal of Law, Ethics, and Public Policy, and a J.L. Weigand, Jr. Notre Dame Legal Education Scholar. John spent his 1L summer at Kuckelman Torline Kirkland and his 2L summer at Husch Blackwell in their Kansas City office. After graduation, John will return to Husch Blackwell as an associate in their Intellectual Property Litigation Group.

    Savannah is a 3L from Shawnee, Oklahoma. She graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 2023 with a B.A. in Mathematics and History. At Notre Dame, she serves as a Managing Senior Editor on the Law Review, as Professional Development Director for the Federalist Society, and as an Oralist for the Moot Court Constitutional Law Team. She has also worked as a research assistant for Professors Sadie Blanchard and Haley Proctor. Savannah spent her 1L summer working for the Regulatory Team at Alliance Defending Freedom and her 2L summer as a Summer Associate in Sidley Austin’s D.C. office. After graduation, she will clerk for the Honorable Patrick J. Bumatay on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

    Jessica Smith is a third-year law student from Houston, Texas. She graduated in 2023 from Samford University in Birmingham, AL where she studied History and Music and participated in the University Fellows honors program. At NDLS, Jessica is an Edward J. Murphy fellow and serves as Executive Editor for the Notre Dame Law Review. She spent her 1L summer as a judicial intern for the Honorable Don R. Willett on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and her 2L summer as a summer associate at King & Spalding. After graduation from law school, she will clerk for the Honorable Elizabeth L. Branch on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit before returning to Judge Willett’s chambers, this time as a clerk.

    Steven is a J.D. candidate from Seattle, Washington. He graduated from the University of Washington in 2022 with a B.S. in Aeronautical & Astronautical Engineering and a B.A. in Philosophy. Before law school, Steven served for six years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and worked as an emergency medical technician and restaurant server in Seattle. At Notre Dame, he is a member of the Christian Legal Society and serves as an assistant rector in Keenan Hall. He has also worked as a teaching assistant for Contracts and as a research assistant for Professors Nicole Garnett and Sadie Blanchard. Steven spent his 1L summer in Chicago as a summer associate with Katten Muchin Rosenman and his 2L summer with the Washington, D.C. office of Latham & Watkins. After graduation, he will clerk first for the Honorable Steven J. Menashi on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, then for the Honorable Mary Kay Vyskocil on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

    Gloria grew up in South Korea, San Diego, and Philadelphia. She graduated with honors from Swarthmore College with a B.A. in Economics and Arabic and an M.A. in Religion from Westminster Theological Seminary. During her 1L summer, she was a research assistant for Professor Bruce Huber and a part-time judicial intern at the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. She spent her 2L summer as a summer associate at the Washington, D.C. office of Clifford Chance. After graduation, she will clerk for Honorable Judge Lawrence Van Dyke on the Ninth Circuit.
