Forming the next generation to defend religious freedom is of central importance to the Notre Dame Law School Religious Liberty Initiative. The initiative provides law students with numerous opportunities to learn about relevant case law and gain experience with research, writing, and litigation in real-world cases.

    Will is from Indianapolis, Indiana and graduated with highest distinction from Purdue University in 2017 with a B.S. in Accounting. Prior to law school he earned his CPA license, working for four years for Ernst & Young and a smaller tax firm in Arizona. Will externed for the Honorable Michael T. Liburdi of the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona during his 1L summer and was a summer associate at Faegre Drinker in Indianapolis during his 2L summer. After law school, he will clerk for the Honorable Michael B. Brennan on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. He is also a Brief Writer for the Moot Court team. In his free time, he enjoys cycling, cooking, and spending time with his amazing wife (Bailey) and adorable puppy (Calypso).

    Nicholas Grandpre is from Richmond, VA. He received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 2019. Before law school, he worked for U.S. Senator Steve Daines. He spent his 1L summer interning for Judge Richard J. Leon of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and his 2L summer at Jones Day in Washington, D.C. At Notre Dame, he serves as a Managing Senior Editor on the Notre Dame Law Review and as Assistant Rector of Fisher Hall. After law school, he will serve as a law clerk to Judge Joan L. Larsen of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit before returning to Jones Day. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, reading fiction, and playing tennis.

    Jared Huber is from Fair Oaks, Indiana. He graduated in 2021 from Purdue University majoring in Political Science and Mass Communciations. During his 1L summer, he interned with Judge Damon Leichty in the Northern District of Indiana and will spend his 2L summer at Jones Day in Chicago. Jared serves as a staff editor on the Notre Dame Law Review, Secretary of the Federalist Society, and Vice-President of the Christian Legal Society. Following graduation, he will clerk for the Honorable Matthew Kacsmaryk in the Northern District of Texas and then the Honorable Kyle Duncan on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. In his free time, Jared enjoys spending time with his family, chess, and playing his violin.

    Olivia Lyons is from Washington, D.C., and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame. Before coming to law school she worked as a market research analyst.

    Hadiah Mabry is from Somerset, Kentucky. She graduated summa cum laude from Hillsdale College in 2020 where she majored in History. She spent her 1L summer working as a research assistant for Professor Nicole Stelle Garnett and will spend her 2L summer in Washington, D.C. at Kirkland & Ellis. Hadiah currently serves as a staff editor on the Notre Dame Law Review and as Vice-President of the Education Law Forum. After law school, Hadiah will clerk for the Honorable Joan L. Larsen on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. In her free time, she enjoys catching up with friends and exploring South Bend with her husband, Zane.

    Charlie Nugent is from Haddonfield, New Jersey. He is a proud graduate of Villanova University. After graduation, Charlie will clerk first on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and then on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. In his free time, Charlie enjoys spending time with family and friends.

    Chris Ostertag grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated magna cum laude from Grove City College in 2020, where he earned a B.A. in philosophy with minors in English and classics. At Notre Dame, Chris serves the Notre Dame Law Review as a Staff Editor and the Moot Court Board as an Oralist for the Seventh Circuit Team. During his 1L summer, Chris served as a judicial intern for the Hon. Stephanos Bibas of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. After graduation, he will serve as a law clerk for the Hon. Julius Richardson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. In his spare time, Chris enjoys playing the violin, cooking, and literature.

    Bernadette Shaughnessy is from Cimarron, Kansas. In 2021 she graduated from Benedictine College with majors in Finance and Accounting and minors in Economics and Theology. During her 1L summer, Bernadette returned to Kansas to intern for the Honorable Holly L. Teeter on the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. At Notre Dame Law, Bernadette serves on the executive boards of Jus Vitae and the St. Thomas More Society. Upon graduation, she will clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit for the Honorable Raymond W. Gruender. In her free time, Bernadette enjoys hosting friends in her home and going on long walks.

    Tess Skehan graduated from Hillsdale College and worked as a legislative aide to U.S. Senator Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania before coming to law school. She chose Notre Dame because she wanted to study the law at a rigorous institution that challenged her to grow not just academically and professionally, but spiritually as well.
