Journal of International & Comparative Law 2024 Symposium on Religious Speech in the Context of Anti-Blasphemy and Anti-Proselytism Laws

-

Location: McKenna Hall Room 215 & 216

Each year, the Notre Dame Journal of International & Comparative Law hosts a symposium that brings together scholars from across the United States and beyond. Hosted at Notre Dame Law School, the symposium provides a setting for intellectual engagement and an opportunity to grapple with pressing legal issues related to the fields of international and comparative law.

The Notre Dame Journal of International & Comparative Law presents the 2024 symposium on "Religious Speech in the Context of Anti-Blasphemy and Anti-Proselytism Laws," co-sponsored by the Notre Dame Law School Religious Liberty Initiative.

Anti-blasphemy and anti-proselytism laws often stifle the free expression of religion. The enforcement of these laws is often in direct violation of Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The symposium will analyze these laws and their implications on an international scale to demonstrate how they interact with the protection of the rights and freedoms of individuals.

Speakers and affiliations include:

Dr. Thiago Alves Pinto – University of Oxford (lecturer; keynote speaker)

Rev’d Dr. Helen Hall – Nottingham Law School (professor)

Knox Thames – Pepperdine Law School (senior fellow) and United States Institute of Peace (visiting expert)

Arafat Mazhar – Engage Pakistan (director)
